Semiya Payasam (Vermicelli Kheer)

Serving size of Semiya Payasam :

Ingredients required to prepare Semiya Payasam :

Vermicelli – 1 cup

Milk – ½ litre

Sugar – ½ cup

Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp

Ghee – 2 – 3 tbsps

Dry fruits – ¼ cup

Directions required to prepare semiya payasam :

  1. To prepare semiya payasam, gather all the ingredients and keep them ready.

  2. Then take a bowl and add ghee to it. Let is heat.

  3. Once the ghee is hot enough, add dry fruits such as raisins, cashew nuts to the ghee and fry them until they turn golden brown.

  4. Transfer the dry fruits to a small bowl and keep them aside.

  5. Now add vermicelli to the same bowl and fry them for sometime until they turn light golden.

  6. Now take the milk and add it to the vermicelli and let it boil.

  7. The fried vermicelli will be cooked along with the milk.

  8. Stir the contents so that it will not burn.

  9. Cook for ten minutes approximately.

  10. Now add sugar and cardamom powder.

  11. Then cook for another 3 to 5 mins on a low flame.

  12. Switch off the stove and add dryfruits on top.

  13. Your yummy semiya payasam is ready to be savoured.

  14. Note : Semiya payasam may be served as desert or sweet snack.

About : Semiya payasam is prepared as offering to gods for festivals and other gatherings. All the ingredients used in the preparation of semiya payasam are good for health. Milk which is rich in calcium is very good for bones. Dry fruits add strength to the body. Ghee which is also is dairy product is good for health when consumed in limited quantities. Hence semiya payasam may be added to your diet occasionally.
