Serving size of Paravannam :

Ingredients required to prepare Paravannam :

Rice – ¾ cup

Water – 1 ½ – 2 cups

Milk – 1 ½ cup

Jaggery – ½ cup

Ghee – 2 tbsps

Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp

Dry fruits – 1 – 2 tbsps

Directions required to prepare paravannam :

  1. To prepare Andhra famous paravannam, we need to wash the rice in clean water and soak it in water.

  2. Now take a grater and grate the jaggery.

  3. Take a bowl and add the grated jaggery and some water to the bowl and heat it on a low flame until it is made into thick syrup.

  4. Once the syrup is done, keep it aside.

  5. Now take a bowl and pour milk into it.

  6. Let the milk boil. Once the rice is boiled add the soaked rice and stir.

  7. Let the rice cook until is soft.

  8. Now add jaggery syrup and cardamom powder to the cooked mixture and mix everything properly.

  9. Take another small pan and add ghee to it. Let it heat.

  10. Once the ghee is hot add raisins and cashew nuts to the ghee and fry them.

  11. Add the dry fruits to the paravannam.

  12. With this your Andhra special paravannam is ready to be served.

Note : Paravannam may be served before starting the meals. It maybe made into thick pudding or thin depending on one’s taste.

About :Paravannam usually made for special occasions and festivals. All the ingredients used in the preparation of Pappu payasam are good for health. Milk which is rich in calcium is very good for bones. Dry fruits add strength to the body. Ghee which is also is dairy product is good for health when consumed in limited quantities.
