Mutton Mulliagatawny Soup

This soup can be best prepared from the leftovers from the mutton used for a roast. Mulligatawny is a English soup of Indian origin.

Ingredients to prepare Mutton Mulligatawny Soup :

  1. Mutton – 1/2 kg
  2. Pepper corns – 6
  3. Coriander seeds – 2 tbsps
  4. Onion – 1
  5. Green chillies – 4
  6. large Coconut – 1 large
  7. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  8. Salt – to taste
  9. Red chillies – 3 medium
  10. Lemon juice – to taste
  11. Mustard – 1 tsp
  12. Ginger – 1 tsp
  13. Poppy seeds – 1 tsp

Directions to prepare Mutton Mulligatawny Soup

  1. Boil the mutton till tender .
  2. Take out the mutton pieces.
  3. Grind all the ingredients except the coconut.
  4. Scrape the coconut and divide into two. Extract the milk from one half and add to the mutton broth with the ground ingredients, Mix well.
  5. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and strain.
  6. Fry the sliced onion with very little ghee.
  7. Add the coconut scrapping and the mutton cut into slices with salt to the strained Mulligatawny.
  8. Cook for about 10 minutes. Add the lemon juice and serve hot.
