Momos are a type of Dumpling believed to be originated in Nepal. Similar dishes are made in different parts of the world with different names. In China they call it as baozi and jiaozi, in Mongolia they call it as buuz, in Japan it is gyoza and in Korea it is mandu. It is a traditional delicacy among Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan.
Generally these dumplings can be made in different shapes and fillings could be(chicken, pork, beef, mushrooms or tofu). Now we are going to prepare dumplings with chicken filling. We can serve this dumplings with spicy chutney or pickles.
Instead of meat you can use the filling of your choice even for a vegetarian recipe

Momos
Ingredients to prepare Momos or Dumplings
For the wrapper
All-purpose Flour/ Maida – 2 cups
Salt – to taste
Water – as needed to make dough
For Filling
Chicken meat-1/2 kg
Onion-1(finely chopped)
Garlic-8 cloves (finely chopped)
Soy sauce-2tbps
Chili sauce-1tbps
Pepper powder-1tsp
Salt-to taste
Oil-2tblps
Directions to prepare Momos or Dumplings
For Filling
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the onions and garlic till it is translucent
Now add chicken and fry till the meat becomes nice and brown
Add all sauces, pepper powder and salt and mix well. Now the filling stuff is ready.
For the wrapper
Mix the flour, salt and knead it with adding small amounts of water to form stiff dough
Divide the dough into lemon size balls
Now roll the balls into thin chapatti
By using cookie cutter or bottle cap or a round vessel you can cut into small circles of the rolled out dough
Keep these wrappers ready to make dumplings
Final Preparation of Momos or Dumplings
Now take the rolled and cut out wrapper, apply a little bit of water on the edges
Put a tblsp of meat filling in the center
Fold the wrapper in whatever shape u want. Here I am folding in to round shape.
Place the dumplings on any steaming dish (like vegetable steamer, idly plates)
Steam on medium flame for 15 mins
Serve hot with some spicy chutney, sauce or pickle.
