Majjiga Charu (Curd/Butter Milk Salad)

Serving size of Majjiga charu :

Ingredients required to prepare Majjiga charu :

Curd/ butter milk – 200 ml

Onion – 2

Green chilies – 3

Mustard – ½ tbsp

Jeera – 1 tbsp

Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp

Curry leaves – 1 leaf let

Salt – ½ tbsp

Oil – 2 – 3 tbsps.

Directions to prepare Majjiga charu :

  1. To prepare majjiga charu, take some curd in a bowl and beat the curd. No need of beating if it is butter milk
  2. Then peel the onion and clean it with water along with green chilies. Cut the onions and green chilies into small pieces.
  3. Add the sliced onion and green chili pieces to the beaten curd/ butter milk, add some salt too and mix everything properly.
  4. Now take a small bowl and two to three tbsps of oil to it. Let the oil heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot enough add mustard, jeera, turmeric powder and curry leaves to it and fry them for a minute.
  6. Now add the fried mixture to the curd/ butter milk bowl and mix it properly to make tasty and yummy majjiga charu.

Note : Majjiga charu tastes good with rice. Water may be added to the curd if you dont want it to be very thick. It is one of the most common recipes of Andhra cuisine.

About : Curd is very helpful in improving immunity and digestion. It is also good for skin and hair. It is very important to incorporate curd into one’s diet to keep the body hydrated, especially in summer. Curd may be mixed with water to make butter milk. Majjiga charu may be made with butter milk also. Curd or butter milk when mixed with other ingredients makes a very healthy and tasty recipe one cannot resist to taste.
