Gummadikaya Halwa or Pumpkin Halwa

Gummadikaya Halwa (Pumpkin Halwa)

Serving size of Gummadikaya halwa : one small bowl full per person

Ingredients required to prepare Gummadikaya halwa :

Pumpkin – 2 cups (Have to be grated)

Sugar – ¾ cup

Ghee – 3 – 4 tbsps

Milk – ¾ cup

Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp

Cashew nuts – 10

Raisins – 15

Almond – 5

Directions to prepare Gummadikaya halwa :

  1. To prepare tasty and mouth watering Gummadikaya halwa, we need to take a small pumpkin and clean it with water.

  2. Then peel the pumpkin and grate it with the help of a grater. Grate until you have 2 full cups.

  3. Then take a small pan kind of bowl and pour ghee into it. Let it heat.

  4. Once the ghee is hot enough add the grated pumpkin into the ghee and fry it for five minutes.

  5. Then add sugar to it and mix.

  6. Cook for another 2 – 3 minutes until the sugar is mixed properly.

  7. Then add the milk, cardamom powder to it. Mix again and cook.

  8. While the mixture is cooking, take another small bowl and heat ghee in it. Once the ghee is hot fry the cashew nuts, raisins and almonds in ghee.

  9. Chop the almonds into small pieces before frying them.

  10. Now switch off the stove and add the fried cashew nuts, raisins and chopped almonds to the cooked pumpkin mixture.

  11. Your tasty and mouth watering Gummadikaya halwa is ready to be savoured.

Note : Gummadikaya halwa may be served as a sweet snack or a desert.

About : Gummadikaya halwa is usually made during special occasions. Pumpkin in rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals. It is also said be having anti-oxidants. The other ingredients such as ghee and milk also adds nutrients to the recipe.
