Uppu Manga Pachadi

Curd and Salted Mango  Pachadi or uppu manga Pachadi :

Serving Size for the below Uppu Manga Pachadi recipe: 4

Ingredients for uppu manga pachadi:

  1. Salted Mango pieces 3/4 cup
Grated coconut- 1 cup
  3. Green chillies 7
  4. Red chillies 8
  5. Coriander powder 2 tsp
Cummin seed
1 pinch
  7. Coconut oil 1 oz
  8. Curds 11/2 cups
  9. Curry leaves 6 sprigs
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Mustard 1 tsp


Directions to make Uppu manga pachadi:

Grind together coriander powder, cumin seed, coconut and the salted mangoes to a fine paste. Crush four red chillies, green chillies and four sprigs of curry leaves. Mix all the ingredients in 11/2 cups curds and add salt to taste. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, four red chillies and two sprigs of curry leaves and season. Pour it into the curd mixture. Stir and use.


Every house in Kerala will have at least one mango tree. Mango will be abundant in summer  in every houses. I still remember my grandma going inside the cellar in our house and get savories like the uppumanga and chakka haulva. The word Uppumanga itself will bring some nostalgic feeling to every malayalee and some child hood memories will definitely associated with it.

During mango season people makes uppumanga for preserving it for future, especially it will be very useful and tasty during the coming monsoon. This is a method to preserve the mango so that it can be used during the lean season
