Cheeda without egg

Serving size: serves 4

 Ingredients:

 

  1. 1 1/2 cup Boiled rice, uncooked
  2. 3 teaspoon Roasted urad dal/ black gram
  3. 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  4. 1 teaspoon Cumin
  5. 1/2 teaspoon Sesame seed
  6. 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper powder
  7. 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida powder
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 2 tablespoon Ghee
  10. Oil for deep frying

 

Directions:

 

  1. Soak boiled rice for 6 hours. Drain and add urad dal. Grind finely without adding water
  2. To this mixture, add coconut, cumin, sesame seed, pepper powder, asafoetida, salt and ghee. knead well into a dough.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer and when hot, make small balls from the dough, about the size of playing marbles and deep –fry.

 

Tips:

  1. Grind the urad dal flour to very fine powder, even a little coarse grain will make balls burst out in the oil while frying.
  2. Using excess water to make the dough can also cause the cheeda’s to burst
  3. Make a hole with a toothpick on each ball before deep frying. It will help the balls from bursting
