Bobbattu (Sweet Stuffed Roti)

Serving size of Bobbattu recipe : 2 to 3 per person

Ingredients required to prepare Bobbattu recipe:

Wheat flour – 1 cup

Water – 2 ½ cups

Bengal Gram – ½ cup

Jaggery – 100 grams

Coconut – little piece

Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp

Salt – required amount

Ghee – 1 tbsp

Oil – 1 tbsp

Directions required to prepare Bobbattu (Recipe):

  1. To prepare tasty and healthy Bobbattu, we need to gather all the above listed ingredients.

  2. Then take a bowl and add wheat flour, ghee and mix well. Then add water little by little to make it into dough. Add more ghee if required. Once the dough is formed keep it aside.

  3. Now clean the Bengal gram and cook it, but not completely.

  4. Once the Bengal gram is cooked properly, grind it using a stone mortar.

  5. Now take jaggery and grate it. Mix the grated jaggery in water and make it into thick syrup.

  6. While the syrup is being prepare, grate the coconut too.

  7. Now take a bowl and add jaggery syrup, grated coconut, cardamom powder, grind-ed bengal gram and little bit of salt (very little) and mix well until it becomes a soft ball.

  8. Now make small balls with the jaggery and Bengal gram mixture.

  9. Take the wheat flour dough and make balls smaller than the balls made out of jaggery and Bengal gram mixture.

  10. After the balls are made, take a roti presser and apply ghee or oil to it.

  11. Take one ball made of wheat flour and slightly flatten it with your fingers, then place the jaggery and Bengal gram ball at the centre of the flattened dough and fold the edges of the flattened ball to form a covering over the jaggery ball.

  12. Then press the covered ball with the presser.

  13. Now take a pan and apply ghee or oil to it and let it heat.

  14. Once the pan is hot enough, place the pressed ball on the pan and cook it. Reverse the direction after one side is cooked with the help of a flat spoon.

  15. Once both sides are cooked, remove it from pan and keep it on a plate.

  16. With this your tasty and healthy Bobbattu is ready to be savored.

Note : Bobbattu may be served as sweet snacks.

About : Bobbattu is usually made for festivals or special occasions. It is very healthy as it is made of jaggery. It also consists of other healthy ingredients such as Bengal gram and coconut.
