Amti is a simple Maharashtrian dal recipe. It typical of its sour and slight sweetness. Kala masal or ghoda masala is one of the ingredient for the prepration of Amti Daal. it goes well with plane rice, Chapati or puran poli. This dish os devoid of onion and garlic ( no onion no garlic dish). Another version of Daal is katachi amti which contains more spices and ingredients. Clean the Dal in a vessel and pour enough water in the vessel so that the dal can be soaked.
Saok the daal for around 30 minutes.
Drain the water and transfer it into a pressure cooker
Pour a round 2.5 to 3 cups of water into the pressure cooker.
Cook The Dal in the pressure cooker in medium flame up to around 3 to 4 whistles.
If you want you can add more water and boil the Dal for the consistency of your choice.
Mash the daal, properly if there are any lumps.
Keep the dal in the stove with low flame and and the previously prepared tamarind pulp, jaggery, goda masala and salt and cook for 5 minutes.
In a small fan and one teaspoon of oil and heat it. Splutter the mustard seeds add curry leaves, asafoetida and green chillies into it. Saute it for a while.
Add it into the daal. Cook Dal for another few minutes.
Garnish it failed coriander leaves
Serve it hot with chapati chapatis rice or puran poli.
